New York, NY – February 19, 2009 -- United Stations Radio Networks, Inc., (USRN) an independent leader in original network radio programming, today announced it is expanding its successful programming franchise, The House of Hair with Dee Snider by adding an additional hour of programming to the weekly long-form entertainment program. A newly expanded 3-hour version of the program will become available for the first time during the broadcast week of March 30th which for many affiliates corresponds to the weekend of April 3-5, 2009. The announcement comes jointly from Pam Edwards, whose Bernadette Productions is the company responsible for The House of Hair, and United Stations EVP/Programming Andy Denemark.
The move to expand the program comes as the result of affiliate demand. As the popularity of 80's-based “Hair Band” music continues to thrive, House of Hair affiliates have been asking for more programming from the network, from the show’s producers and from host Dee Snider. In terms of content and theme, the new additional and optional hour will not only be an extension of the two-hour show, but it will also contain some new features. New programming elements appearing in the expanded version of the show include features such as "The Greasy Roots of Metal", a tribute to the founding fathers of hair metal, and the "3rd DEE-gree", a brain twister for the audience wherein three songs are related by a common thread.
The House of Hair is in its 12th year on the air nationwide and it keeps growing each week. It’s the nation's #1 syndicated weekend rock show, with over 200 affiliates in the U.S. and Canada. The newly expanded program is just one element of the House of Hair brand. The franchise also includes The Daily House of Hair Cut, a short vignette feature airing Mon-Fri focusing on one song, The Weekly Buzzcut, the free House of Hair newsletter distributed electronically each Friday, and the active website, http://www.houseofhaironline.com/. That web address has not only become a valuable interactive tool for fans of the show, but is the home of at least one substantial rock-themed contest per week with prizes such as all-expense-paid rock cruises, autographed one-of-a-kind memorabilia and personal phone calls from artists like Sammy Hagar and Guns N' Roses.
Host Dee Snider remains one of the most recognizable rock icons of his generation. He is best known as the lead singer of the acclaimed rock band, Twisted Sister, but he is also a television host, author, screenplay writer, actor, a doting husband of 27 years, and the father of four children. In radio, 2009 marks Dee’s 12th year hosting the nationally syndicated “House of Hair” and in February of 2007, he added hosting duties on the daily short form program, the “Daily House of HairCut.” Recently reunited with his original Twisted Sister mates, he keeps creating music, including their latest, “A Twisted Christmas.” In 2004, VH-1 Classic signed Dee to be a host and face of the cable network and in that same year VH-1 produced the special ‘Meet the Family’…an endearing look at Dee and his family. Dee Snider also wrote, narrated and produced Van Helsing’s Curse, an eighteen piece orchestral rock recording that has been hailed by critics as the new soundtrack for Halloween. Dee is currently heading into film production on the much anticipated sequel to his cult horror hit, Strangeland.
